Use Your Mind To Heal Your Body

Use Your Mind To Heal Your Body

Would you like to heal a chronic health problem?

Have aches and pains and discomfort that you’d rather live without?

Hopefully you’re working with doctors and other practitioners you like and trust, and who are doing everything they can.

But did you know that there may be more YOU can do to create improved health and healing in your own body?

The latest neuroscience research is proving again and again that…

BrainEvery thought you think affects every cell of your body

The Lessons of Mind-Body Medicine

It’s easy to see how the mind affects the body in our everyday lives:

When someone gives you a compliment and your mind THINKS about the words and what they mean, your body reacts and you blush.

When you’re at the airport and your mind THINKS about how afraid you were last time you flew on an airplane, your body reacts with real physical symptoms like butterflies, racing heart or sweating.

If you got sick on blueberries as a kid, they can literally make your stomach turn even now when you see them and your mind THINKS about how sick you got before.

And scientific research keeps showing how your thoughts affect your physical health.  Here are just a few examples (but I explain more about the research in my FREE video series – see end of article for details):

Older people’s thoughts and beliefs about aging directly affect their level of health or illness as they age:

laughingoldman-stencilThose with positive thoughts about aging:

o  live 7.5 years longer

o  are 44% more likely to fully recover from a bout of disability

Those with negative thoughts about aging:

o  suffer more memory loss

o  have poor physical functioning

o  have an impaired cardiovascular response to stress, with all the corresponding ill health effects

50-60% of us respond to placebos (i.e. sugar pills we thought were “real” medicine”). Why?  Because we THINK we will be healed, and so we are!  Researchers have found this placebo effect can stimulate real physiological responses, from changes in heart rate and blood pressure to chemical activity in the brain, to reduction in pain, depression, anxiety, fatigue, and IBS.

75-90% of doctor visits are for illnesses related to stress (problems like headaches, pain, sleep problems, stomach problems, weak immune systems, depression, and anxiety). Research continually shows how mental and emotional stress is a factor in so many physical illnesses.

Using All Possible Pathways to Healing

Since we know that your thoughts affect your body’s ability to heal and stay healthy, then the question is:

How do you learn to consciously direct your mind so every cell in your body moves toward health, healing and wellness?

Managing your thoughts and emotions

is the best way to put your body

in a positive state to enable the physical healing you want.

This is the key piece that most people miss.  If you focus only on treating health problems at the physical level, you are missing out on powerful pathways to healing.

More Than “Just Positive Thinking”

The problem is that truly managing your thoughts and emotions just isn’t as easy as it may sound.

Thoughts and feelings that have come automatically for a long time CAN actually be changed, but for most people, it takes tools, training, and practice, practice, practice.

Here’s what has worked for me and for clients I’ve worked with:

Find out what thought patterns you have that may need to be changed

Figure out what new thoughts or “healthy thinking” will create the best possibility for your body to heal – these are very specific to each person and to your life circumstances

Learn how to catch yourself in the moment of negative thinking or worry about your health

Learn tools that help you “turnaround” difficult situations and emotional upsets

Create specific, powerful affirmations that put into words the healthy life and healthy body you want

Visualize the healthy life and healthy body you want, tapping into a different part of the brain (the part that links to your emotions)

Create regular practices that reinforce the affirmations and visualizations; this is needed in order to literally change the neural pathways in your brain

Spend more time with people who believe in you and who will support and encourage you
