- Anxiety starts as a thought (whether you’re aware of it or not).
- Thoughts and fears build up in your mind, triggering the fight-or-flight part of your brain (amygdala).
- Your amydala releases adrenaline and cortisol to your body so you can fight or flee from the perceived danger.
- That chemical release makes you feel nervous, tense or edgy. You may even have scary physical symptoms, feel panicky, or have a panic attack.
- Anxiety now feels very out of control, leading to even more anxiety. A vicious cycle of anxiety.
